The 75 who breathed air of freedom, made up a total of 742 inmates who had been so far released by Justice Philips since she assumed office as Chief Judge last two years.
This present gesture, was part of activities lined up as a prelude to her retirement from service this July.
Meanwhile, Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, (DCP) in charge of the Kirikiri female prisons, Mrs. Leticia Isioma Onwuli had lamented the poor state of health facilities in the prison.
She said the Kirikiri female prison clinic located within the prison facility currently lack adequate equipment to deal with the increasing challenge of female inmates especially the pregnant and nursing mother among them.
In her gesture, the Chief Judge released 71 of the inmates from the medium section of the prison, while three and one inmates were released from the maximum and the female prisons respectively.
In releasing them, the Chief Judge acted upon the powers conferred on her under Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2007.
She urged the newly freed inmates to be of good behaviour as they return to the society.
The Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Mr. Olu Tinuoye thanked the CJ for the gesture saying that her administation has significantly reduced the number of awaiting trial inmates in the prisons.
She noted that the kirikiri female prison facility currently have 205 inmates of which 170 are awaiting trial, 32 convicted, two condemned, one lifer, Eight pregnant women and nine mothers with babies.
She pleaded with the Chief Judge to use her office to appeal to the state government to provide rebate for female inmates who are referred to the general hospital for treatment.
