Ebola: Ondo State residents urged to listen to media instead of rumour

Dr Aderonke Fagbemi, a consultant optician with the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akure, has urged residents of the state to be attentive to the media to have good knowledge of the Ebola virus ravaging some West African countries.
Fagbemi told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Akure on Monday that only the media could give them satisfactory knowledge of the virus.
“I urge our people to be attentive to certified media such as radio and television stations and reading of newspapers so that they can be kept abreast of the details of the virus and not to be filled with rumour.
“And they should adhere to instructions from the Ministry of Health on where not to travel to and what to do,” she said.
The medical doctor advised that washing hands with soap all the time was a good precautionary measure against the virus, adding that children should be made to do so.
She added that any suspicion of the symptoms of the virus should be reported to the nearest hospital because it was only in the medical laboratory that such claims could be verified.
The medical doctor cautioned against eating of bush meat which is a good delicacy in the area, stressing that the virus could be contacted through infected animals.
“At this time, we should desist from consumption of bush meat which is common here.
“Animals such forest antelope, bats and other fruit animals are major carriers of the virus but if it is a must to eat, we should thoroughly cook them,” she advised. (NAN)
