Ali, Ezeife support removal of #BringBackJonathan 2015 signs

Sen. Ahmadu Ali, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive for the removal of #BringBackJonathan 2015 signs and banners around Abuja.
Ali gave the support in an interview  on Wednesday in Abuja.
The former chairman said the president’s opinion should be respected and such signs be removed as directed.
“The president’s opinion should be respected and I don’t see anything wrong with the directive that the signs should be removed.
“Most of the people are doing this thing without his consent,” he said.
Similarly, former Governor of Anambra, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said the president reserved the right to ensure that his name was not used wrongly by any group.
According to him, the directive by the president is not out of place, in view of the connotation given to the call for his return in 2015.
“It is the president’s prerogative to ensure that his name is not used wrongly and as such he has the right to order the removal of such signs. I support his order,” he said.
President Goodluck Jonathan had, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, directed immediate removal of #Bring Back Jonathan 2015 signs around Abuja.
The statement noted that the president and many Nigerians found the signs and banners offensive and repugnant.
The statement further noted that the signs, which were highly insensitive parody of the #BringBackOurGirls hash tag, were put up without his knowledge or approval.
The president commended the enthusiastic show of support for his administration by a broad range of stakeholders, but condemned the #BringBackJonathan 2015 signs.
The signs, according to the statement, appear to make light of the very serious national and global concern for the abducted Chibok girls. (NAN)
